Hi there! I am a second-year student at the University of British Columbia who will be living in Calgary for the summer. I am a member of the Faculty of Science majoring in Biochemistry and minoring in English Literature. In my first year of study, I completed core first-year courses and labs in enriched biology, chemistry, enriched physics, enriched mathematics, and English, finishing above class average in each course taken. In high school, I completed the International Baccalaureate program with higher level courses in European History, Biology, and Chemistry, and standard level courses in French, English Literature, and Mathematics. I also wrote Alberta Diploma exams for Math 30-1, English 30-1, Social Studies 30-1, Biology 30, and Chemistry 30. In high school, I was a member of a tutoring club which provided homework help to all students. I was fortunate enough to teach a range of subjects, including mathematics, social studies, and English. I have found that the best approach to teaching is initiating an investigative discussion. I make an effort to understand exactly what a student is struggling with to avoid wasting time on subjects that they are comfortable with. I also want to gain insight into the student's thought processes, allowing me to tailor my teaching style for them. I firmly believe that the key to effective teaching is adjusting according to an individual's strengths and being conscientious of their needs, rather than using the same strategies for different people. In my spare time, I love to be active. I'm involved in several different sports, including triathlon, rock climbing, and fencing. I'm definitely sympathetic to the student who would rather be playing a sport than studying! I look forward to working with you or your child.
