Hello! My name is Alex, I am a Master of Science (Physics, 2019) specializing in quanutm information and condensed matter, currently researching higher algebra and number theory in the department of Maths at UCalgary. Throughout my studies I’ve enjoyed my role as a TA for many introductory physics, maths, and writing courses, including some senior physics labs, and have been pleased to tutor students at the high-school and post-secondary levels over the past nine years. With my students, I adopt an inquiry-based, practice-forward approach to problem solving. Together, we integrate the fundamental course concepts and principles taught in class into the . Taking physics as an example, the majority of my students benefit from learning how to strategically and diagrammatically set up the problem, and to then idetinfy the relevant equations needed to arrive at the solution. In my free time, I like to take-in fresh air and vitamin D, whether on my snowboard, longboard, or two feet. The natural flows of the water and wind inspire the organic demeanour I strive for. I also enjoy creative writing in the styles of rhythm and poetry, aiming to promote harmony and critical thinking through artistic expressions. This pursuit has brought me onto the Science Genius team, sponsored by Beakerhead, which borrows practices from Hip Hop culture to promote scientific literacy and exploration. As a team member, I am honoured to engage with young and curious minds, and to help foster our students' understandings and appreciation for both science and the arts!
