I am currently studying Education in the University of Calgary's Werklund School of Education. My area of specialization is ESL. I have one year of experience working as an assistant ESl teacher in Quebec, in addition to an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Environmental Studies. My hobbies include fitness, running, soccer and skiing. As an ESL teacher I utilize a variety of approaches, ranging from the communicative approach which focuses on dialogue and oral expression, as well as incorporating a variety of content and language-based approaches to address all aspects of the language learning process. I speak Spanish fluently and am able to tutor spanish as well. I speak conversational french and have an intermediate level, which I am also comfortable teaching. In addition to teaching ESL, Spanish and French, I am also capable of teaching other subject areas in Spanish. I am passionate about teaching because I enjoy the interactive nature of the work and I am fulfilled by helping students overcome challenges and learn. I am currently volunteering with a City of Calgary after school program while completing my degree. In addition, I completed an exchange in Ecuador during my undergrad, which exposed me to a different culture and way of life. As a result, I am comfortable teaching students from all kinds of cultural and religious backgrounds.
