My name is Marcus, poet, journalist and fifth-year student at the University of Toronto. I started tutoring privately in September of 2015 for a family friend. My areas of expertise are English and philosophy though I am comfortable with math and drama. The biggest strength is my ability to communicate and understand children in order to help them reach solutions to their problems. When it comes to math, I find sources online for practice questions as well as explaining the concepts that are involved so the children can understand what the formulas are and what they're used for. For teaching English I like to teach the lessons and things I learned during enriched English from high school as well as searching the internet for interesting lessons. When editing essays and other written work I like to explain why I've made the comments I've had and try and get an understanding of what the writer is trying to convey. For the past three summers I've been a camp counsellor for the City of Toronto with kids between the ages of six and twelve. During the summer I also volunteer at my school as a group leader for orientation for incoming first years. I was involved in a similar program in high school as a member of orientation and leadership team. During my free time I enjoy reading, writing, listening to music, walking and sports; I've been playing soccer for 17 years, I also enjoy volleyball, football and ultimate Frisbee.
