As a tutor, my first priority is to help students minimize their struggles. This means taking the time to get to know them, find the root cause of their issues, and address the cause through communication, encouragement, empathy, and compassion. My undergraduate degrees are in criminology and English. I tutor mostly high school students, but I occasionally work with younger students also. My strengths are in listening to my students' needs and helping them find the fastest / shortest route to reach their goals. I teach effective strategies so students can learn to be self-reliant. In the past, one of my Grade 12 students improved his grade from a 65% in-class average to 87% in his provincial final. With hard work and perseverance, we achieved this within 12 sessions of tutoring, He subsequently got accepted by the University of Calgary School of Engineering. Besides being a tutor, I am also a practicing artist with a Master of Arts in contemporary photography. My work has been exhibited throughout Alberta. I tutor English because many students find writing academic papers difficult; yet, I am so gratified when I can provide tools to help them overcome their obstacles. English is a life skill that is not only essential but can be mastered with hard work, perseverance, and explanations that make sense. The explaining is where I come in.
