I'm a first-year student at UBC in the Bachelor of Media Studies with a passion for learning, writing, and photography. In my spare time, I write poetry, play tennis, listen to podcasts, and read tons of books. I have been a camp counselor at leadership camps for eight years where I got to work hands-on with students, helping them develop communication skills, build their confidence, and providing a safe space for them to learn and thrive. Last summer, I was selected by Me to We to fly to Ecuador for their Advanced Facilitation Training program where I got to learn facilitation techniques with the local community in the Amazon. My approach to tutoring is inspired by the time I spent in Ecuador. Whereas the role of teachers is to tell what you need to know, my job as a tutor is to help guide you through what you’re learning without telling you the answers. Combining the learning techniques I used during my high school experience with the facilitation techniques I’ve learned, I believe that the best way for students to learn is to explore the subject they’re learning at their own pace.
