Hi there, I’m Ryan. I am a part-time university student, and full-time oil and gas employee. I work as an operations analyst, and spend my days working with massive amounts of data to find efficiencies and create value for my company. I have a strong math and science background, and I am looking to share my love of these subjects with others. In high school, I took every math and science course I could. I went through pure math for 10, 20, and 30 (and even 31), and took biology, physics and chemistry 20 and 30. I have always enjoyed math and science, and my diploma scores for those subjects were all in the high 80%’s. In university, I have focused on computer programming and general mathematics. When I was a kid, I was always torn between choosing to be a computer programmer or a scientist. Luckily, computer science gives me the best of both worlds. I have tons of programming experience in a number of languages, and have taken many calculus, statistics, and general mathematics courses at the university level. I have always loved learning, and I see this as an extension to that passion, as well as an opportunity to instill a love for STEM in others. I like to be hands-on, working through problems and finding solutions together. I do not want learning to be the simple regurgitation of facts, but instead be based on underlying theory and application. You shouldn’t just know the answer but know why the answer exists and how to get there from any starting point. In my spare time I like to make things. Whether that is programming Arduinos to do a number of different tasks, making a rocket that shoots fire 10’ in the air, or any number of projects based on addressable LEDs. I love to 3D model practical objects and turn them into reality with my 3D printer. I also am an avid music lover and DJ when I have the time. And like any math/science nerd, I love to play video games whenever possible.
