I have considerable teaching experience with phonics and composition, but my degrees are in physics, mathematics, and space science, and these are definitely my passions. I really enjoy noticing physical phenomena in the world around me, and using my knowledge of algebra, geometry, and calculus to improve my hobbies. My best memories of teaching are seeing a student light up when they understand a concept for the first time or realize how the subject matter relates to their real life. I have a bit over three years of tutoring and teaching experience prior to registering with TutorTag. This includes a private tutoring service where I focused on teaching math and reading to grade school children. My reading philosophy is based in a phonics, sound-it-out, system. I believe that mathematics is best learned when paired with the application of interest to the student. I also did after school counseling for 6-7 year olds at a private school that included homework assistance. Furthermore, I worked at the writing center at Lamar University, my undergraduate alma mater, and was a graduate teaching assistant in the physics college at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. In my free time I am a bit of a gamer. I mostly play sandbox and adventure games like Minecraft, Stardew Valley and My Time at Portia. A recent big project I am working on is the building of JKR’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Minecraft. As that implies, I am a big Harry Potter fan (prefer the books to the movies), but I also enjoy Marvel comic movies, and TV dramas like Heartland. Other novels I reread over and over again include the Inheritance Series (first book is Eragon). Note: For the security of you, your child, and myself, I only meet students in a public library for the first session.
