A TAG statement stands for (Title, Author, Genre) and basically helps with formulating a Thesis statement as well as provides a good opening to any essay. An example would be: In  " The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" (title), Mark Twain's (author)  satire (genre) of Southern customs highlights the vicious role that slavery plays in their society.

In "Divine Comedy" (Title), Dante's (author) religious epic (genre) takes the reader on a fantastical journey through hell and heaven to to show the arduous pains one must go to in order to reach salvation.
